All Vote-By-Mail Elections in Yolo County?

The Senate approved Assembly Bill 413, which allows for up to three mail-in-ballot elections before 2018.

Yolo County may soon conduct some local elections entirely through mail-in ballots instead of collecting votes at poll stations.

The Senate has approved Assembly Bill 413, which authorizes the county to conduct up to three local elections using only vote-by-mail ballots between now and the end of 2017, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The bill was written by Assemblywoman Mariko Yamada of Davis:

“Research indicates that all-mail ballot elections tend to increase turnout, decrease costs and do not result in voter fraud, yet we do not have detailed reports that evaluate these specific claims. AB 413 will allow Yolo County to conduct up to three local all vote-by-mail elections subject to prescribed conditions to determine their effect on voters who traditionally vote at the polls.”

Two previous versions were vetoed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger after they were approved by the Legislature.
