Live Stream: Gavin Newsom Talks Tech & Math at UC Davis

Science, technology, engineering and math will be celebrated at a summit at UC Davis on Monday and Tuesday, October 12-13.

California has more than 13 percent of the nation’s overall science, technology, engineering and mathematics jobs.

The California STEM Summit will celebrate these jobs, which have begun to lag in California in recent years. The event will be held at UC Davis on Monday and Tuesday, October 12-13.

Google will kick off the Summit by hosting an exclusive seminar and demo unveiling innovative approaches to integrate its cutting-edge technology and tools into the 21st century classroom.

The California STEM Summit will feature speakers from leading businesses such as Hewlett-Packard, Pixar Studios and Raytheon, non-profits such as the George Lucas Foundation and the Exploratorium; and policy makers including Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom.

Google will kick off the Summit by hosting an exclusive seminar and demo unveiling innovative approaches to integrate its cutting-edge technology and tools into the 21st century classroom. 

A handpicked group of star STEM students will showcase their award-winning innovations at a STEM Student Showcase and reception on Monday evening, October 10 and serve as ambassadors for the event.

  • Google-hosted demo – Innovative Approaches to Applying Technology in the 21st Century Classroom – Monday, Oct 10, 10am – Noon
  • Keynote by Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson – Monday, Oct. 10, 1:30pm – 2pm
  • All-star Student STEM Innovation Showcase – Monday, Oct 10, 5pm – 6:30pm
  • Address by California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom – Tuesday, Oct 11, 10am – 10:30am
  • Speakers from leading businesses such as Google, Apple, Pixar Studios, Hewlett-Packard, Chevron and Raytheon and philanthropists such as the George Lucas Foundation and the Silicon Valley Education Foundation.

At the Summit, a number of new public-private partnerships will be announced to bolster K – 14 STEM education and ensure that all California students receive a world-class STEM education that prepares them for success in postsecondary education, the workforce and their daily lives. 

“The education system that once helped propel California’s innovation-based economy needs to be jumpstarted,” said Chris Roe, California STEM Learning Network CEO. “The California STEM Summit is designed to launch critically-needed initiatives that will catalyze STEM education and prepare our workforce so California can maintain its position as a global leader in the 21st century.”

The event will take place at the UC Davis Conference Center, located at 550 Alumni Lane.
