Davis Pedicab rolled into Davis on New Years Eve of 2010/2011. With their first year in the books, company owner Andrew Watters says they have only just begun.

“We’re working on some projects to execute a vision that I have,” Watters told me before a pedicab ride last week. “That’ll be proposed through the UC Davis Big Bang Competition. You can see a sneak peak at what’s possibly in the future for Davis as a city and for the campus.”

Davis Pedicab will also test a shuttle service from the West Village to downtown during the month of March. “People who live out there should look forward to using us during that month as a test,” Watters said.

It should be noted that pedicabs do not have set rates. Customers negotiate the cost with the pedicabber, which incentivizes the experience.

Students are a major customer base for Davis Pedicab, which makes for a solid stream of riders throughout the school year, but things are a bit less dependable when students vacate for the summer.

For that reason, Davis Pedicab plans to add a more event-based component after graduation. They'll provide pedicab transport at events like Coachella and the High Sierra Music Festival. They’ll maintain a presence in Davis as well, especially during big events like Picnic Day.

Some of Davis Pedicab’s current sponsors are the Davis Food Co-op, Sudwerk, Ramble and Viridian Apartments, Amtrak and Capitol Corridor. To advertise or contact Watters, you can email davispedicab@gmail.com or find them on Facebook.
