UPDATE: 10-Year-Old's Very Detailed Suspect Description Draws Readers' Attention; Police Weigh In

The suspect, who allegedly approached a 10-year-old girl near Orchard Park, has piercings on his face and a swastika tattoo on his left calf, according to police.

UPDATE: Several readers were curious about a very detailed description offered by a 10-year-old girl who was approached by a man in Orchard Park last week.

Among the details described were "several piercings in the upper part of his right ear and a black oval inserted earring in his left earlobe ... round ring through the middle of his nose ... Rose tattoo on his left upper arm, a cross tattoo on his right outer forearm and a swastika tattoo on his left outer calf. Underneath the swastika he had “love” written in black pen ... riding a black mountain bike with white 'Magna' written on it with no shocks. He was last seen riding towards Russell Park."

Readers commented: "Perhaps the most detailed description ever offered by a 10-year-old" and "amazing that a 10-year-old could remember so much detail!" I also received several emails about the story, so I reached out to the UC Davis Police Department.

"It was an awful lot of detail for what was likely a brief encounter," said Sgt. Dan Malloy. "But we have no reason to believe it's not like what she said. She sat down with a law enforcement sketch artist (for two hours)."

The sketch artist, who has been on the job for many years, said "the girl seemed credible."

Malloy explained that you never know what will trigger a child's memory. The case is still open and anybody who sees a person who fits this description should call 530-752-1230.

Malloy also informed us that the encounter happened at noon on Sunday, Sept. 30. Parents reported it to police around 7 p.m. that same day.
