Thousands in Gas Stolen Using Rigged Bread Truck (VIDEO)

A Davis Valero station has been hit by these same thieves several times, to the tune of about $8,000.

What do you get when you combine a bread truck, a thousand-gallon gas tank and a couple of desperate thieves? You get this story:  

Two men pulled up to the on Chiles Road in a bread truck that was rigged with a large gasoline tank and a hole in the floorboard.

Surveillance video shows one of the men removing the fuel cap from the ground while the driver pulls the truck forward. After that, the men attached a hose and began sucking thousands of dollars worth of fuel through a hole in the bottom of the bread truck.

“They really just pulled up to the gas station and started pumping,” said Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov. ‘But then they got caught.”  He said he’d never seen anything like it in his entire career.

The Valero station’s owner, Darshan Mundy, told CBS News that he had been hit six times by the same suspects in recent weeks, to the tune of $8,000. He called it a huge loss, and said he won’t report it to insurance because his rates will go up.

Police arrested Tyler Bird, 27, of Roseville. He’s facing conspiracy and grand theft charges. Another suspect fled the scene on foot.
