Video: Human Being Steps Out of Painting

The Great California Paint Out took place in Davis this weekend. Check out this slideshow.

During the John Natsoulas Gallery-sponsored event, more than 100 painters of many backgrounds and genres rendered their impressions of streetscapes in downtown Davis.

Despite the looming ten-year anniversary of 9/11, there was a festive air along the sunny sidewalks as the artists conversed with passersby, describing their techniques and listening to suggestions. Established painters including Deladier Almeida and Boyd Gavin along with enthused up-and-comers stood at their easels, taking the measure of buildings, trees, people and less identifiable subject matter.

At the Natsoulas Gallery, Davis musicians James Barnes and Scott Nelson improvised live jazz throughout the festivities.
