Summer House began in the summer of 1973 as a six-week pilot program to determine the success of group home living for adults with disabilities. The response to the project from both parents and residents was overwhelmingly favorable, and a non-profit corporation, Summer House, Inc., was formed in 1974. As a true grass-roots organization, Summer House has enjoyed considerable financial support from individuals, businesses, and community organizations as it has continued to grow and broaden its offerings. High quality services are now provided to 12 residents in the Woodland home, 12 in the Davis home, and approximately 50 other adults in Woodland, Davis, Esparto, West Sacramento, and other parts of Yolo County.
