58 Uninsured Women Received Free Mammograms in Davis Saturday

Sutter Davis Imaging gave uninsured women the opportunity to receive free digital screening mammograms on Oct. 27 in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Fifty-eight women were seen during free mammogram screening sessions at Sutter Davis Imaging this weekend. Spokesperson Liz Madison shared this recap of the event, which was in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

The women who received mammograms will get their results within several days after their visit and Sutter Diagnostic Imaging will work to connect women who have an abnormal result to local not-for-profit agencies with which Sutter regularly partners so patients may take next steps and receive follow-up care.

Sutter’s Free Mammography Day was spearheaded at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital in 2009, where in two years’ time about 70 uninsured women were given free mammograms. Inspired by the feedback and success of the program, Sutter Diagnostic Imaging expanded it to its other locations in Davis, Elk Grove, Roseville and Sacramento in 2011, and in Fairfield, Jackson and Vallejo in 2012. Sutter Health’s diagnostic imaging centers across the Sacramento region dedicated every Saturday in October to offer free digital screening mammograms to women more than 40 years of age. Each of the sites quickly booked up as soon as the service was announced. A total of 358 women were screened this year because of Sutter’s program.

At first I thought, "What now? First the IRS is investigating the Tea Party and now the OddRead More Fellows and Soroptimist?" But then, after reading the article I realize that these are pretty serious allegations if proven to be true. I'm curious what specific "foster youth" organizations have benefitted from all of this fundraising. "Foster youth" is a pretty generic phrase and could refer to any number of organizations. With all of the non-profits I have worked with, the specific charity benefitting from their work was very clearly identified (and their 501c status was never in question).
