A Guide to Spreading Holiday Cheer to the Less Fortunate

In the spirit of giving, take a look at some local charities that will accept your donations.

Maybe you received some gifts this year that you aren’t particularly fond of. Or maybe you need to get rid of some old things to make room for your sweet new stuff. Or perhaps you just want to take this last opportunity to make a charitable donation that can be deducted from your taxes this year.

There is always a good reason to help those in need, and here are some local charities that will accept your donations:

  •  - A non‑profit, non‑denominational volunteer organization dedicated to providing low-income and homeless community members with housing, food, and human services. To donate items, please call 530-756-4008.
  •  - The mission of STEAC is to provide immediate short-term assistance with basic necessities to Yolo County families and individuals with income below the poverty level. For information on how to donate, call 530-758-8435.
  • Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter - A community-based effort enabling member congregations to provide shelter and hospitality to persons who are homeless in the community. Donations can be brought to (412 C Street) Monday-Thursday from 9:00am - 2:00pm.

At first I thought, "What now? First the IRS is investigating the Tea Party and now the OddRead More Fellows and Soroptimist?" But then, after reading the article I realize that these are pretty serious allegations if proven to be true. I'm curious what specific "foster youth" organizations have benefitted from all of this fundraising. "Foster youth" is a pretty generic phrase and could refer to any number of organizations. With all of the non-profits I have worked with, the specific charity benefitting from their work was very clearly identified (and their 501c status was never in question).
