Holidays Begin in Dowtown Davis Thursday Night

The tree lighting will take place at 6:30 p.m. and four free showings of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will happen at the Varsity Theatre.

Thursday night marks the beginning of December, which makes it a fine opportunity to kick off the holiday season. Plenty will be happening in downtown Davis.

At the center of the festivities will be the holiday tree lighting, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. There will also be free showings of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at the . 

Here are some other events taking place downtown Thursday night:

  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas will play at the Varsity at 6:00, 6:40, 7:20 and 8 p.m.
  • A parade will leave the Food Co-op at 6 p.m. The destination is E Street Plaza.
  • A choir will sing on the main stage in the plaza from 6 to 6:20 p.m.
  • Mayor Joe Krovoza will light the tree at 6:30 p.m.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Claus will receive guests in the plaza from 6:40-8:15 p.m.
  • The “No Bones About It” Jazz Ensemble will play holiday jazz from 7-7:45 p.m.
  • Free horse-drawn carriage rides will leave every 10 minutes from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Also, the will host a free reading and signing of the book, The Little Christmas Elf, by local author and teacher Nikki Shannon Smith. That's at 4 p.m.
