The Poetry Night Reading Series is proud to welcome poet Chris Erickson on Thursday, July 19th at 8 P.M. He will be performing at the John Natsoulas Gallery at 521 1st Street in Davis.

Chris “Whitey” Erickson is a writer who mixes fiction, performance poetry, and comedy. His work has appeared in various literary magazines as well as online publications, including pankmagazine.com, benmarcus.com, McSweeney’s, and The Hobo-Tramp Voice. He earned an MA in creative writing from UC Davis in 2009 and recently completed his first novel, entitled Henrytown. An educator and roustabout, Chris Erickson resides in Winters, California.

The poet and talk show host Dr. Andy Jones has said the following of Chris Erickson: “I really admire the work of that performer named Whitey. His performances are ribald, insightful, sentimental, surprising, and always entertaining. He is the opposite of a cliché. Unless Keith Lowell Jensen is in town, no comedian can provoke in a Davisite a greater eruption of uncontrollable risibility and joy than can Chris “Whitey” Erickson. Someone save me a front row seat!”

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to the John Natsoulas Gallery to secure a seat, and to sign up for a spot on the Open Mic list. The Poetry Night Reading Series, organized and hosted by Andy Jones and produced by Pia Baur, occurs on the first and third Thursday of every month at the John Natsoulas Gallery in the Arts and Entertainment District known as Downtown Davis. The Poetry Night Reading Series is made possible by the support of the Cultural Action Committee of Davis.

At first I thought, "What now? First the IRS is investigating the Tea Party and now the OddRead More Fellows and Soroptimist?" But then, after reading the article I realize that these are pretty serious allegations if proven to be true. I'm curious what specific "foster youth" organizations have benefitted from all of this fundraising. "Foster youth" is a pretty generic phrase and could refer to any number of organizations. With all of the non-profits I have worked with, the specific charity benefitting from their work was very clearly identified (and their 501c status was never in question).
