The Ballerina Project describes itself as more than just dance photography. It's an "etching of a ballerina’s heart and emotions."
Photos from the project depict ballet dancers in the outdoors, usually in urban or natural environments. The project inspired a local dancer and photographer to do a photo shoot of their own. They let Davis serve as the backdrop.
Photographer Stephanie Nguyen said of the shoot:
My friend (and housemate) Briana enlisted me to photograph her and her former ballet partner/current boyfriend in a Ballerina Project-inspired photo shoot. We scouted some amazing locations around Davis and got some good shots despite the rain in the first couple of photos. I am in love with the final product.
Nguyen is a student at UC Davis as well as a fashion blogger and aspiring writer. She keeps a personal blog called Sunkissed Steph, where you can see more of her work. She calls the blog a journal of sorts -- A creative outlet that touches on fashion, writing, photography, things all things that inspire her.
