What Are You Reading This Summer?

Have you enjoyed the books you've read this summer? Have you struggled to find time to read?

Summer can be a good time to step back from the madness of everyday life and do some leisure reading, whether it’s summer reading as a student or vacation reading as an adult.

I figured I'd ask:

What have you been reading this summer? Have you read as much as you'd planned to? Are you satisfied with your choices?

I personally have not done nearly as much reading as I’d hoped. That’s partly because I started a new job, moved to Davis and helped plan a wedding.

It can be difficult to disconnect from reality and immerse yourself in fiction when so many pressing things are happening at the same time.

But, this time next week I’ll be on a plane to the Galapagos Islands for some honeymooning. During that getaway, I plan to make up for lost time.

I’ve been stumbling all summer through a book called The Imperfectionists, which is a fiction story about the staff of a newspaper office in Italy. It’s not bad, but it hasn't hooked me, but that might just be because I've been so busy.

I’ll probably read Galapagos, by Kurt Vonnegut, during the honeymoon. Here’s a Wikipedia sentence used to describe the book, which touches on Darwin’s theory of evolution:

“Over the next million years, their descendants, the only fertile humans left on the planet, eventually evolve into a furry species resembling seals.”

It should be entertaining.

Meanwhile, my soon-to-be-wife just picked up, and finished, the first book in The Hunger Games series. She picked it up Saturday, and finished it Sunday night. She’ll save the last two for the aforementioned honeymoon. (She's way to busy to afford that kind of addiction this week).

So, what are you reading?

Please share your reading experience this summer and feel free to recommend anything that you’ve particularly enjoyed. Or let us know if you've hated something you read.
