Cash Mob: Local Holiday Shopping at the G Street Shopping Center

The first Cash Mob will be held Friday, November 16 from 4-7 p.m. at the shopping center that houses the Food Co-op, Monticello, RadioShack and Ken's Bike & Ski.

The Davis Chamber of Commerce, the DDBA and Yolo Federal Credit Union will host cash mobs to support locally owned businesses in town. The first will be held Friday, November 16 from 4-7 p.m. at the G Street Shopping Center, which houses the Food Co-op, Monticello and more.

"Unlike a flash mob where participants break out into an impromptu dance routine, a cash mob brings members from the community together to commit to spending a little money in support of small business," said the Chamber of Commerce in an email release.

“Our entire community wins if you spend your hard earned money at Davis-based businesses rather than out of town or online” said Kemble Pope, Executive Director for the Davis Chamber. Here's from the the Davis Chamber of Commerce:

“The timing is perfect” stated Christina Blackman, Marketing Manager, Yolo FCU, “forgo cooking for one night and grab a bite out at Monticello’s, then head over to Ken’s and get your bike ready for winter weather or pick up that bike light you’ll need now that it’s getting dark earlier, and finally finish at the COOP to grab those items you’ll need for Thanksgiving.”

According to Nina Gatewood, Downtown Davis Marketing Coordinator the group has plans to host cash mobs throughout the year in 2013. “Each of our organizations is committed to supporting local business and our goal is to bring the community together to making shopping local a priority.”
