Luigi’s Pizza Has Closed its Doors After Just Five Months

Were you a Luigi’s fan? Are you sad to see it go?

After about five months on the scene, Luigi's has closed its doors, just a few days after playing host to the Davis Music Festival.

The windows are covered in paper and the doors are locked. The Music Fest sign is still ziptied to the rails in front of the pizzeria.

The Davis location, which opened in January, was one of three Luigi’s restaurants owned by Greg and Linda Brida. The two other restaurants are located in Midtown and on Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento.

Live music was a key part of the restaurant's identity throughout its short life. The stage downstairs played host to a steady stream of live shows, including Saturday’s Davis Music Festival, which proved to be the last hurrah.

A representative at the Midtown location said the Davis store just wasn't as popular as the others, and that the other two locations will continue as they have.

If we get more specifics, we will share them.

such a bummer!! it was such a great live music venue, food wasn't the greatest but the basement scene and beer more then made up for that..... better advertising for shows would've helped, they didn't have a FB biz page to "like" or a big community poster board prominently displayed either....

What?! We were just there on Saturday for the fest, and enjoyed some yummy pesto pizza. No signs of impending closure anywhere. That's a startling reminder of how quickly these things can happen.

I agree. I thought the venue was awesome, but the shows weren't always on my radar. Maybe that comes with time. I actually liked the pizza, too. Sold by the (massive) slice. Bummer.

Worst service I've ever had in my life, not surprised they didn't last. Music scenes are great but you need service to support it.

Yep, it was a brief run. Awesome downstairs stage. Hopefully the next tenant finds a way to make it a staple on the music scene.

I worked at the Oak Park branch and had lot's of fun making pizza&salad's and bar-tending soft drinks and beer.this business will progress and develop even more with the closing of a major factory ,co-owners,co-workers worked at factories all over greater Sacramento, and will benefit and ignore the 2008 slump in our economy, thanks.

At first I thought, "What now? First the IRS is investigating the Tea Party and now the OddRead More Fellows and Soroptimist?" But then, after reading the article I realize that these are pretty serious allegations if proven to be true. I'm curious what specific "foster youth" organizations have benefitted from all of this fundraising. "Foster youth" is a pretty generic phrase and could refer to any number of organizations. With all of the non-profits I have worked with, the specific charity benefitting from their work was very clearly identified (and their 501c status was never in question).
