Protesters Will Occupy Monsanto in Davis on Friday

Protesters plan to gather in front of the Monsanto building in Davis on Friday from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to rally in support of GMO food labeling, among other issues.

Monsanto's Davis location, which has been a site for picketers in the past, is located at 1920 5th Street. This "occupation" is part of a week of protests that will also involve a rally and a march at the Capitol in Sacramento on Saturday.

A flier for the event lists the following desires:

  • Label GMO foods
  • Ban cancerous foods
  • Stop polluting the environment
  • Stop poisoning our drinking water
  • Stop chopping down rain forests
  • Get out of our government
"Protesters will urge the governor and attorney general to issue a statement in regards to the Supreme Court ruling of Vernon H. Bowman v. Monsanto Co, that legally protects patenting of genetically modified seeds that could adversely affect California small farmers," according to a release from the Anti Monsanto Project. "They will present a set of resolutions to address the bill rider, agricultural issues and the uncertainty of human health risks of GE foods."
