The Second Annual Davis Music Festival is June 23. Bands will be playing at Delta of Venus, Odd Fellows Hall, Sophia's, Luigi's, G Street Wunderbar, Armadillo Music & L Street Plaza, and Little Prague. Here's the schedule at Delta of Venus:
Here's the detailed schedule >>
4:00 pm
Marissa Moriel & The Fifth House Sons - Formerly of the bands Olive Drive and Tambourine Shoes, Marissa Moriel has brought forth a new band, this time with Zak Norlyn on bass and Jason Chase on drums. However, Marissa has been known to rock out by herself during shows when her band members are unable to play. Her style lies anywhere where a creative woman has poured her heart out through music: From a jovial Janis Joplin to a quiet, sullen Fiona Apple.
5:00 pm
San Kazakgascar – This Sacramento-based indie/psychedelic band has the experimental sound of early 70s rock ‘n’ roll while also maintaining a heavy, driving beat—like Bob Dylan meets The Beatles in their Magical Mystery Tour era.
6:30 pm
Ally Hasche – Ally is a Davis-based singer/songwriter who sings delicate ballads with an exquisite voice and an acoustic guitar. She will be performing this year as a trio, so this set should be utterly engaging.
8:00 pm
Churches – This Oakland/Santa Cruz-based threesome playsloud, melodic power-pop, rooted in teen angst nostalgia. They are reminiscent of Nirvana, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr. and The Pixies—“for the disaffected small-town weirdo in everyone.”
9:30 pm
Whiskey Avengers – The Whiskey Avengers have stayed true to their origins: Jamaican-style ska and rocksteady mixed with west-coast reggae. However, they have forged a new blend of rock, soul and folk Americana that lends itself to multiple generations of castaways, bad apples and, well, whiskey drinkers. whiskeyavengers
11:00 pm
Miss Lonely Hearts – Like a saucy Johnny Cash with an excellent sense of humor, the band plays old timey country with a tongue-in-cheek twist. Their bio reads “Five guys, copious liquor and a fine shoe collection.” Miss Lonely Hearts were a beloved staple in the local music scene for years and have recently relocated to Santa Cruz, where they continue the raucous party and occasionally tour with The Devil Makes Three.
Thanks to DMF staff for providing these bios!
