Wow! $8.00/hr. How about some jobs that would provide a living wage?
Aaron August 27, 2012 at 12:51 pm
If you have only skills / education that every other person has, you can expect to be paid minimum wage. If you want higher pay, show me you have skills / education that few people have. If I really need your special skills / education, I'll pay you more $$. It is that simple!
The idea of someone "deserving" a "living wage" is a joke! Why would I bother to go to college, get a specialized degree, go to a trade school for special skills, or work harder than the next guy to work my way up in a company if I could get a "living wage" just bringing a GED to the table? A low minimum wage is encouragement for someone to "make something of themselves". If someone isn't interested in making "something" of themselves, that's their problem. Poverty and failure don't choose you, you choose them by not working hard enough at self improvement. Life isn't "fair". Unlike youth sports, not everyone gets a trophy!

Sure, the busser job pays $8. But the insurance job pays $13 and the rest depend on experience. Many people need jobs these days, and some of them are probably interested in $8 jobs, while others will seek more, depending on experience level.

I went to school because I wanted more than the minimum quality of living just above homelessness, which is essentially all "living wage" is. Additionally, I'd rather everyone be able to receive more than a living wage so they aren't out stealing my catalytic converter, dealing drugs around our kids, and being sent to prison where we all get to support them with taxes.

Living wage is a joke because companies are making a bigger profit becasue of the brain washing they are giving the people , did u know that more companies are showing a profit even now in what they call a recession then they ever have before and yet paying less then the cost of living " i mean come on get real "

At first I thought, "What now? First the IRS is investigating the Tea Party and now the OddRead More Fellows and Soroptimist?" But then, after reading the article I realize that these are pretty serious allegations if proven to be true. I'm curious what specific "foster youth" organizations have benefitted from all of this fundraising. "Foster youth" is a pretty generic phrase and could refer to any number of organizations. With all of the non-profits I have worked with, the specific charity benefitting from their work was very clearly identified (and their 501c status was never in question).
