Davis officials will be doing their best to keep Santa dry Thursday night.
The city and Davis Downtown will hold the Davis Holiday Parade at 6 p.m. Thursday, as long as rains aren't too severe.
"We're planning to start the parade at 6 p.m. unless the police department tells us it's unsafe," city spokesman Bob Bowens said by phone.
The parade will be followed by the tree lighting at 6:30, and refreshments to follow. One change organizers have made because of the weather is moving Santa–the jolly Mr. Claus will now be located indoors, across the parking lot from the E Street Plaza.
Here's the full schedule, from the Davis Downtown website:
5:30 pm: The Parade participants begin lining up at the Davis Food Co-op at 620 G Street.
6:00 p.m: The parade steps off at and participants will walk to E Street Plaza.
6:30 p.m: The Holiday Tree lights will be lit.
6:40 p.m: Santa and Mrs. Claus will be located [indoors across from] the E Street Plaza where they will receive guests until 8:15 p.m. Other holiday costumed characters will entertain downtown visitors during the evening.
The film "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will be screened at 6 p.m., 6:40 p.m., 7:20 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Varsity Theatre, located at 616 2nd St.
