Come to Davis and travel the world with International Festival by learning about cultures, achievements, and diversity from countries all around the globe! The Local International House of Davis will be hosting its second annual International Festival on Saturday, October 6th, 2012, noon to 6pm, for children, parents and the general public. The event will be located at Veterans’ Memorial Center which is located on 203 E. 14th St. Davis, CA 95616. The International Festival is free, and offers music, dancing, food, craft sales, country tables, and educational presentations. The International House will be hosting the event to promote respect, diversity, and appreciation to all people of cultures!
The International House of Davis has been holding events, activities, and presentations to help promote unity in diversity for over 30 years. In 2011, the International House of Davis held its first ever “International Festival” for its 30th anniversary. The event was a success with an attendance over 3,000 people! The theme of the festival was “Unity in Diversity” and will be carried onto this year’s festival.
The International Festival will have an entertainment stage filled with unique dancers, drummers, and singers! The entertainment will begin with an introduction and welcome by the International Board President, Mary Phillips, Davis Mayor Joe Krovoza and Stage Manager Sandy Holman. The event will be hosting over 20+ artists from different cultures and backgrounds from around the world, The featured artists of the day are: gold medalist world champion Jana Graves, violist Kippy Marks, National award winning D.J. Michael Cagley, Nathalie Dzokerayi’s International fashion show, Galena Street East Productions, Grant Drum Line, Pamela Trokanski Theatre and the Third Stage Dance Company, FDF Center Dance Group, and Calvin Handy and the Jazz Patrol.
This year’s festival will also have ethnic food vendors from El Taco Maniaco, Thai Recipes, Preethi Indian Food and many more! The Veterans’ Memorial Center will be hosting country tables in which people from different nations showcase history, culture, and achievements from around the globe. From the plains of Africa to the amazons of Venezuela, each country will be showcasing their photos, artifacts, and textiles.
Each table is crafted to promote understanding and respect for cultures that are often unfamiliar. Over 25+ countries will be representing their culture, authenticity, and beauty!
There will also be an educational stage where speakers from around the world educate the audience about cultures, diversity, and their experiences! These performers will be reading poetry, discussing musical instruments, and even teaching the audience how to create recycled art! If you’re interested in art, knitting, or woodcarving, there will also be arts and craft vendors in the Memorial Center! The Arts and craft vendors will be selling scarves, pottery, and a variety of crafts. The International Festival is also kids friendly! The festival will have an entertainment stage just for kid’s events. The Chinese Orchestra will be giving an astonishing performance on the kids stage and Barciarini will have an exciting martial arts demonstration! The amazing Mr. Hasben will also be on stage performing amazing magic tricks that will leave the crowd in awe! The International Festival is open for people from all cultures and age!
