How to Find UC Davis Housing for College Students

The majority of students looking at UC Davis housing are not local residents for the city.  When they arrive at the end of summer each year they usually flood the tiny town and can quickly snatch up admirable accommodations that may be available.  The competition involved in finding the right student housing is fierce and it would be advisable for anyone expecting to relocate to Davis to study to start their apartment hunting plans well in advance.

If you’re smart you’ll start your search online well before time to start the school year.  The reason for this is that many apartments are actually posted months before the previous tenants plan to move out.  So, if you’re savvy with a computer and you don’t mind negotiating for a place based on a photo then this may be the way to go.  However, if you’re someone that prefers to do an official walk through you may want to arrive in the city early, stay in a hotel while you’re looking around and then make your final decision.

For Research Students

Because UC Davis is a research university, there are many students that may not be attending for a full school year.  If you’re a research student that is planning on working on a study project you may not be comfortable signing a year-long lease.  For these students, their best bet may be the scholar apartment housing offered by the University where you can lease for as little as three months at a time.  These units are very affordable, but since there are only three buildings that offer these types of leases, it is strongly advised that you put in for this type of housing very early on.  Otherwise you could easily miss out on this gold opportunity.

Sabbatical Housing

Sometimes private homes can be leased out to students while the owners may be away for an extended period of time.  If you’re looking for a short-term stay, this may be the perfect option, because these units come fully equipped with not only furnishings and appliances but also kitchenware, linen, and laundry facilities all ready to go.

A careful search around the city will probably reveal a few apartment houses that offer month-to-month leases but these will go fast.  The secret to finding the perfect student housing accommodations for the university student is to start early and never give up.
