Patch Bigwig Comes to San Juan

The editor-in-chief of the whole kit and caboodle for all the Patches nationwide dines with your local Orange County editors at Cedar Creek Inn.

Hey, if you work for a major, nationwide company and your big boss comes into town, I would snap a picture of that, too.

So why not take a photo with , editor-in-chief of all of the country's 850-plus Patch.com sites? We're up to 22 states plus the District of Columbia. Can you imagine covering that city from a hyper-local perspective? What's NOT local in Washington?

I got to sit next to Brian while dining at  Thursday and hear how the recent roll-out of Patches went in the first primary states, Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina (great, by the way).

And Brian asked me what I am doing to try to cover sports (while also covering the city, schools, business, features, etc.). I tried to clone myself, but that didn't work.

So I told him how I've been utilizing booster parents to feed me texts during the games, which I then turn into stories. We've experimented with this concept for several  .

He liked the idea, and I do, too. Where else are you going to read not only how the varsity team did, but the JV and frosh/soph squads, too?

If you'd like to get your child's high school sport covered, email me at the address in the top banner.

But don't get mad if I don't get back to you right away. I'm off to New York for a week, where I will be officially deputized as your local editor. Coincidentally, it's also Fashion Week next week. I'll let you know if I manage to crash a show.

Ciao for now!

Great to have you running the show in SJC, Penny! I'm glad Brian (and his sweater vest) were there to meet and greet you. Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Hello Patch Editor Ms. Arevalo from Priscilla Lynn, Milford, CT Patch reader and contributor: I just read this article. Congrat's on your new role with the SJC Patch. I lived in the USVI for 11 years and over the years visited San Juan often for pleasure and work. Do you remember when Seaborn Seaplane launched their Old San Juan leg? They were my clients, among a few others there such as I.T.T. World Directories. I still miss the Caribbean, even though I left in 2002, so I think I'll start reading your Patch edition regularly. Best of luck in your new role.

Thank you! But you're thinking of San Juan, Puerto Rico and we are San Juan Capistrano, on the West Coast about 75 miles north of the US/Mexico border in South Orange County, California. I have been to the Caribbean, however, and completely understand how you could miss it! :-)

Wow, I grew up in SoCal, you'd think I'd remember that fact. LOL. Well, I miss California, too. Hmmmm, something about birds coming back at the same time of the year, or....??? Still, best of luck to you.
