Something Does not Smell Right at the Davis COOP

I have been told that at some point on friday, two members of the board of directors of the COOP approached Eric Stromberg, General Manager since 2000, and handed him a letter.  The letter was notice of their intent to fire him.

No reasons were offered.

It would appear that the decision to fire Eric was made in closed session at the previous board meeting almost 4 weeks ago.  It would appear that the timing of the notice was calculated so that members of the COOP would not have time to approach the board and demand a recision or explanation before the 30 days prior to termination was up.
Let me be clear that there has been no conversation or even murmur about any issues with Eric's performance prior to this.  In fact, under his leadership the COOP has managed to navigate tough economic times, stay neutral through hard political issues and overcome the opening of Trader Joes and Whole Foods.
Eric has also ensured that the coop remain relevant and a leader in community events and support throughout his tenure.  He has grown the COOP, spearheaded a renovation of the entire facility and been involved in the teaching kitchen.
I am only one member with one vote, but this Man has done more for Davis and the COOP in the last 14 years than some of us will ever be able to accomplish.  To fire him without a stated reason or cause is the act of cowards.
Pleas contact the board of directors right now and demand that they explain why they want to fire this pillar of the Davis community.  Eric deserves to know and so do we. http://davisfood.coop/about/boardofdirectors
