A Davis Patch Photographer Was Held Up at Gunpoint Saturday Night

"The victim refused to give up his property and the suspect fled the area on foot."

After a night of photographing the Davis Music Festival, a Davis Patch photographer was held up at gunpoint during his walk home Saturday night.

I plan to post his account of the story tomorow (Wednesday). Here's the info Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov provided me today:

On June 24, at approximately 12:15 AM, Davis Police officers were dispatched to the area of 6th Street and D Street for a report of a robbery. The 30 year old male victim was walking on D Street and talking on his cell phone. A suspect approached the victim, pointed a handgun at him, and demanded the victim's cell phone. The victim refused to give up his property and the suspect fled the area on foot.

Police officers arrived and checked the area, but could not locate the suspect. The victim described the suspect as a black male adult, in his mid-twenties, wearing and unknown type of hat, and a white colored jersey. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Davis Police Department at (530)747-5400.

Note: The photographer acknowledges that the advisable thing to do would have been to hand over the property. But he said he had a few reasons for not doing so. I'll get it posted Wednesday, when it's finished.

Dood had more balls than brains.Prolly to stupid to be scared. Guys like him end up dead...because the perp panics. Maybe it was a fake gun. Maybe he could see no bulets in the chamber. Just maybe he has a reliable sixth sense this crack head from west Sac was just staright enough to see right away there are much easier marks with sense enough to give up the property and cell 911...Happy it turned out well for him, though, of course..

Haha. Thanks Lawson. Try to avoid calling our photographers stupid next time if possible. He's a smart guy. I know him well. I'll add more to the story tomorrow.

Wow, that is scary. Hope he's okay!
Lawson--There's no need for your ignorant comments. It's easy to be the Monday morning quarterback isn't it? Have you ever been in a situation like this? I seriously doubt from your comment.

People can say what ever they want the truth of the matter is what you do when the situation arises is reactionary. I mean who's to say that if he would have given up the stuff then the guy wouldn't shoot him anyway? I feel the only way to combat these people is to not be a victim. Not saying take on someone with a gun, but try to walk in groups or in plain sight, know your surroundings. Be smart, Be safe.

At first I thought, "What now? First the IRS is investigating the Tea Party and now the OddRead More Fellows and Soroptimist?" But then, after reading the article I realize that these are pretty serious allegations if proven to be true. I'm curious what specific "foster youth" organizations have benefitted from all of this fundraising. "Foster youth" is a pretty generic phrase and could refer to any number of organizations. With all of the non-profits I have worked with, the specific charity benefitting from their work was very clearly identified (and their 501c status was never in question).
