A Man Was Arrested on Rape Charges Near the Amtrak Station

Thaddeus Sonne, 21, was on top of the 21-year-old female when police arrived.

A witness saw two people having sex near the Amtrak station Thursday and reported it to police just before midnight.

“Upon arrival, officers observed the male suspect, subsequently identified as Thaddeus Sonne -- a 21-year-old Davis resident -- on top of a 21-year-old female victim,” said Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov in a release. “Due to the victim’s intoxication and other observations, the officers suspected the victim did not consent to the sexual acts.”

Police arrested Sonne and called detectives for a more in-depth investigation, according to Doroshov. The victim was not physically injured, but was taken to a medical facility in Sacramento for further examination.

Sonne was later booked at the Yolo County Jail on rape charges. Police will not release victim information due to the nature of the crime.

This is very sad...I happen to know of Thaddeus and he is good person and I hope this is just a mistake.

I don't know the guy, but from what was described out send like this is a mistaken incident and you just helped ruin a mans life forever. I am ashamed of the Patch!

This is a brief that was issued directly from the Davis Police Department. Read through and you'll see that every single quote and sentence came directly from their report of the incident. When they go out of their way to share news (which doesn't happen regularly), we share it with the community.

The above comments (not including Justin's) are part of the reason our rape culture persists. Calling an alleged rape "just a mistake" trivializes sexual assault. How about instead of defending the alleged attacker, you think about the victim. If she was too intoxicated to consent, and he went ahead with it anyway (aka rape), that is no one's fault but his own. Everyone knows where the law stands on this, so there are no excuses. We should be more concerned with helping the victim and making sure men/boys are aware that it's never ok to take advantage of a woman, intoxicated or not, than with how such allegations will affect the alleged rapist's reputation.

I will start by saying I agree with Ashley. I believe I know this man. He is a nice guy and I am shocked. But we also have to read the article carefully it says "officers SUSPECT the victim did not give consent to the sexual acts." Therefore it does not say she did or did not is says they "suspect". We do not know the whole story and until we do WE need not speculate or gossip!

Thank you! The rape apologists on here really need to adjust their thinking.

Nice guy or not he got himself in the news, because he was having sex in public with an intoxicated woman. Ewwww.
anonymous August 19, 2012 at 05:27 AM
Who hasn't had sex in public? The issue here is whether the woman was TOO intoxicated to consent (unable to speak properly or walk on her own, literally unable to say no), not just drunk. If a woman wants to get drunk and make bad decisions that's on her. He was probably drunk too obviously. It is totally possible for someone to be on the verge of blacking out, and for the other person not to know. I know him and I'm shocked. If he knowingly raped her or drugged her then of course he deserves to be punished. But it sounds like she was drunk and he was drunk and they left wherever they were to have sex. The alcohol could have kicked in at that point, just in time for the police to show up and think it was rape. That is what the previous posters mean by "mistake." They mean two people making a bad decision and it being blamed on one, or looking worse than it actually was. No one is saying that rape is okay or forgivable. It is just sad that now his reputation is ruined over something that, for all we know, he isn't even guilty off.

THANK YOU "Anonymous"! I couldn't have said the above better myself.

In public, or by the Amtrak station, where no doubt several witnesses were subjected the sight. I'm glad he was picked up and taken off the street.

Innocent till prove guilt people. We all learned that in grade school. So let's stop calling him a rapist intil he is convicted.

Rapist? Maybe. Public Nuisance? Yes.

I´ve been friends with Thaddeus for like 5 years, since highschool I´m studying abroad right now but I just heard what happened thaddeus (ted) is an awesome dude, one of the nicest people I´ve ever met honestly and I´m not just saying that to go against what others are saying I personally don´t think he would ever commit rape, he doesn´t do drugs and is super polite in every situation he grew up in a poor family in davis with about 5 brothers and sisters and has had to work to support his family because his parents weren´t doing the best financially right after highschool, i went to chico state and he started san city, he said his parents and younger siblings took off for the east coast and since then he has been working a gym to pay for rent all I can say is I don´t think he would ever do such a thing, I think the davis cops do not get enough action and were quick to pin this on him, I garuntee he was fucking the girl and either she broke her own phone or maybe was pissed at him and tried to fuck him over with the police
