CHP Officer Rolls Car En Route to Davis; Vehicle Bursts Into Flames

The patrol vehicle slid sideways down the right shoulder then flipped over landing on its roof.

 

A California Highway Patrol officer rolled his Crown Victoria while traveling south on Highway 5 while responding to a call in Davis Monday, according to the CHP. 

The wreck, which involved a 47-year-old officer, occured on I-5 near Del Paso Boulevard. CHP shared the following details Wednesday morning:

For unknown reasons, the Officer lost control of his patrol vehicle and traveled onto the west roadway edge of southbound I-5.  The patrol vehicle slid sideways down the right shoulder then flipped over landing on its roof.  The patrol vehicle immediately burst into flames.  The Officer was initially unable to exit the patrol vehicle due to the doors and windows being jammed.  The Officer was able to shatter the glass of a window and exit the patrol vehicle. The Officer was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with minor injuries.
