The wreck, which involved a 47-year-old officer, occured on I-5 near Del Paso Boulevard. CHP shared the following details Wednesday morning:

For unknown reasons, the Officer lost control of his patrol vehicle and traveled onto the west roadway edge of southbound I-5.  The patrol vehicle slid sideways down the right shoulder then flipped over landing on its roof.  The patrol vehicle immediately burst into flames.  The Officer was initially unable to exit the patrol vehicle due to the doors and windows being jammed.  The Officer was able to shatter the glass of a window and exit the patrol vehicle.
