Meet Clayton Garzon, the 19-Year-Old Arrested in the Beating of Mikey Partida

Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. Garzon allegedly yelled gay slurs repeatedly before the attack.

The Davis Police Department announced Thursday that they arrested Clayton Garzon, 19, in the beating of Mikey Partida, 32.

Witnesses say the suspect repeatedly yelled gay slurs at Partida before the attack, which police are investigating as a hate crime. Partida was found unconscious at the scene and hospitalized with head trauma. More info and video of Partida here.

Here's what we know about the 19-year-old suspect:

  • He is a Davis resident who appears to have attended Davis High School.
  • He was arrested for a stabbing in Dixon last September. In that incident, four victims were stabbed and another "suffered blunt force trauma to the head."
  • His father is a doctor who travels to Africa to treat famine victims. As it turns out, I interviewed him in August of 2011.
  • We also found Garzon's MySpace page, which has dozens of photos. In many of them he's smoking from a bong and drinking. In others he is riding a bike, smoking a cigarette, or just posing with friends. Visit the page here.

Feel free to share thoughts below. You can also visit Mikey's Justice Fund on Facebook to follow Partida's progress.

Are we sure that's the same guy? MySpace profile lists his age as 21.

I can confirm that the man pictured is known to me as Clayton. I was in the same grade as him and attended the same school since childhood, and I am 19.

I don't think we should visit his FB page or give him any kind of attention in this way. It glorifies the perpetrator, which may encourage other sick people like him to commit crimes for the attention.

I removed a comment due to language. As awful as this story is, please remain polite.

He was out on bail from Solano County, now this new arrest. His bail from Solano should be revoked due to his new Felony arrest. Bail conditions require obeying laws and no new offenses. Solano County should revoke his bail and issue a warrant. His actions show an ongoing threat to the community.

and his arrest in Solano County....using a knife and fleeing?
Gary McDowall March 15, 2013 at 06:59 PM
He shut off his page and only his "friends" can see the data. I wonder what type of friends he has that share his bong?
Gary McDowall March 15, 2013 at 07:05 PM
Of course you saw it all, and no doubt were a witness to his other offense and arrest in Solano County....As for the victim speaking out, it got the job done and the police got their "man". Wonder if he used "Dads" money for bail, most employers would not want their employees depicted with a bong...bad image for any company, unless employed by a head shop.

Obviously there's a story that the media doesn't know yet as to how this fight started, but it seems undeniable at this point that Clay was yelling homophobic slurs. That makes this incident about hate and anger towards gays, which is unforgivable. Maybe Mikey defended himself, as he should have, I'm sure you're right that there's more facts to this story than we know, but you're going to have trouble defending Clay as a stand up guy based on what we know so far. So many people in Davis know Mikey and his family, they've never shown tendencies toward asking for money. In fact, quite the opposite, despite having gone through other hardships than this in their lives. I think if you're asking people to wait for the facts before they judge Clay, then you should also not assume that Mikey is trying to extort money somehow, because that is not true either.

No winners here, just two people who will never be the same again. Certainly the profile of the suspect indicates behavioral patterns that favor violence. I urge everyone to exercise caution in convicting someone prematurely. Have some faith and let the legal process play out

Don't forget his recently alleged knife attack, with multiple victims, in Solano County. At the time of the weekend assault,Garzon was out on bail from the Solano County Jail, facing felony charges. I have faith that both ( Solano and Davis) police Departments did their job and that both Courts will see that Justice is served in both of his cases

Isn't there still a presumption of innocence in this country? I think that this is a despicable crime, and the person responsible must be brought to account, but the fact is that nobody knows what happened except the people who were there.

Anyone who would do such acts and harm others is a threat to our community. Yes, even nice people do bad things.
Mikey Mistersunsetboulevard March 16, 2013 at 08:51 AM
This young man is a menace to society, to act out in such violent manners at such a young age is only going to escelate. Bet his rich family fostered his sense of entitlement to attack, stab, and throw violence at people. Hate in 2013 must stop! and it stops when people like this kid face the CONSEQUENCES of their actions
fundamental March 16, 2013 at 09:09 AM
Presumption of innocence is for the justice system to adhere to, people have the freedom to speculate all they want and have an opinion. If judges start doing it before trials, then it's time to worry. It's important for people to have opinions and to express them.

The reason Clayton went to the hospital is because when somebody said they called 911 he tried to run and fell on his face
Clkean March 17, 2013 at 06:18 PM
Cmmarsh really?Nice people don't go around beating or stabbing people and its highly doubtful he was acting in self defense. He was probably drunk and high(as evidenced by his myspace) and attacked a man because he is a bigot. He has a history of violent behavior and deserves to be in prison. The fact that Mikey went to the media because his family has money is completely false that had nothing to do with it. The media picked up on on it because its an atrocious hate crime. I'm sure Clayton will have plenty of time to contemplate the poor life choices he has made when he is in prison for a few years. His parents should be ashamed they raised such an awful human being.
Anesa Rose March 18, 2013 at 01:09 AM
Wow! Lots of judgments here. Assuming his parents are bad parents? Common now. That has nothing to do with it. He is an adult and made some bad choices. Yes, substance abuse is part of the problem here. It messes up really good people's brain especially when you are young and your brain is still growing. His frontal lobe is where judgment sits. Alcohol on board, substances on board and you are not going to be in any position to make good decisions. He is a nice person but when high he is the devil. He won't get prison. Perhaps jail (18 months max) and probation. Sad but true. Money talks.

My son thought that he liked Clay too, until he and his other disturbed friends decided to brutally stab him and 5 other people putting them all in the hospital with life threatening stab wounds and bragged about it later. They actually were bragging about having thier knives and showing them off saying they were looking to get into a fight that night. He definately gets off on putting people in the hospital and he is lucky none of his victims have died or he would be facing murder charges. Clayton's father should have never bailed him out of jail. Mikey would not be in the hospital right now. I can only pray that the justice system does right by all of his victims.
Kim March 18, 2013 at 11:20 PM
This kid is a spoiled brat with a sense of entitlement that allows him to feel that he can do whatever the hell he wants w/out consequenses. As long as mommy and daddy continue to bail him out, his deviant behavior will continue to escalate. Self defense? Oh yeah, that's what he claimed when he stabbed 5 unarmed people, some nearly to death. This kid is an animal and a manace to society, and certainly has no place in a wonderful community like Davis. I hope that his entire family is driven out of town, especially if his parents continue to enable him. We don't want him here, plain and simple.
LIzzy March 22, 2013 at 05:00 AM
If a kid from a wealthy family beats someone up, he's a spoiled brat. what if a kid from a poor family beats someone up? I'm not sure what good the name calling does.
