Pepper Spray Assault Near Birch Lane Elementary Prompts Brief Lockdown; 17-Year-Old Arrested

The 17-year-old suspect was arrested for illegal use of pepper spray, possession of an illegal knife, and brandishing.

 

An assault that involved pepper spray caused a brief lockdown at Birch Lane Elementary School on Monday, Patch has learned.

It startd when police received a call around 1:55 p.m. about an assault on the 2500 block of Clemson Drive. The Davis Police Department shared the following details on Tuesday:

While officers were responding, the suspect, a 17 year old male, was last reported to be standing near the east entrance to Birch Lane Elementary School. As a precaution, the Davis Police Department notified the school of the incident. The school administrators made the choice to place the school on a brief lockdown while police checked the area and walked through the school (four minutes between the time the school was notified to the time the suspect was located).

The suspect was located away from the school and there is no information to indicate the suspect posed a threat to any of the students or staff at the school. The 17 year old suspect was arrested for illegal use of pepper spray, possession of an illegal knife, and brandishing. The juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall.
