Documents obtained by The Sacramento Bee reveal that Lt. John Pike's recent departure from UC Davis was a result of a firing, the Bee is reporting.
The decision came after a March 1 internal affairs report of the incident at UC Davis found that Lt. Pike acted reasonably and recommended he should be demoted or suspended, the Bee reports.
But UC Davis Police Chief Matthew Carmichael rejected those findings Tuesday, according to the Bee, and wrote a letter to Pike stating that "the needs of the department do not justify your continued employment."
