A celebration of Renne Lyra Morrow's life will be held on Sunday at the UC Davis Conference Center.

Update: A celebration of Renne Lyra Morrow's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the UC Davis Conference Center at 550 Alnumni Lane. The Cal Aggie Band, which Morrow was a part of, will perform.

Original Story: A 19-year-old UC Davis student who was hit by a car this weekend has died, police announced Tuesday.

Renne Lyra Morrow, 19, (who was transgender and identified by police as Brennan Morrow), was struck by a vehicle on Saturday Feb. 4, around 11 p.m. The driver, a 62-year-old female Davis resident, was driving eastbound on Arlington Boulevard near Shasta Drive.

Officers determined that Morrow had started to cross the intersection when White’s car struck Morrow. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. There was no evidence that the driver was impaired by alcohol or drugs, police said.

"Morrow was rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento by ambulance with severe injuries," Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov said. "On February 7, Morrow succumbed to the severe injuries and passed away."

Doroshov continued in a written report:

This incident is a horrific tragedy for [Morrow's] family and the entire Davis community. There is evidence that Morrow consumed alcoholic beverages prior to the collision and that alcohol may have been a factor, however [the] level of intoxication and the exact role this may have played in this collision are still being investigated by the Davis Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team.

The Davis Police Department has been working diligently with student and community groups to discuss the impact that alcohol has on youth safety. Tragedies such as this underscore the necessity to continue with our current efforts and to find ways to further curb illegal underage drinking.
