UCD Hate Crime: Mayor Krovoza & Chancellor Katehi Weigh In

Davis Mayor Joe Krovoza and UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi shared the following letter on Friday:

Dear UC Davis Community,

UC Davis police are investigating as a possible hate crime an incident that took place Sunday evening in which a man walking on campus was assaulted by two men in a sport utility vehicle.

While such behavior is inconsistent with our values, so, too, is silence or indifference in the face of such a crime.

As Chancellor of UC Davis and as Mayor of the City of Davis, we want everyone to know that our communities deplore crimes of bias and that we are speaking out to reassert our lack of tolerance for acts of hatred and bigotry.

Our campus and community are known for their spirit of acceptance and support for one another, and we must always be vigilant in the face of any actions that undermine our environment of civility and respect for all.

Working together, we will do everything in our power to see that the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Linda P.B. Katehi
Chancellor, UC Davis

Joe Krovoza
Mayor, City of Davis
