VIDEO: De Luna Jewelers Window Shattered During Fight; Passers-by Steal Display Items

"A random fight leaves a window at de Luna Jewelers broken. Then some passers-by decide to help themselves to the merchandise."

The above security footage was uploaded to YouTube on February 2 with the following caption: "A random fight leaves a window at de Luna Jewelers broken. Then some passers-by decide to help themselves to the merchandise."

Police hope the community can help track down those responsible.

The situation started around 2:49 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to the Davis Enterprise, when four people walked by the storefront, with two of them rolling around on the ground and fighting. During that altercation, the two slammed into the window, which apparently caused damage to the glass. Next, one of the others in the group kicked the window, causing it to shatter, at which point all four of them ran away.

About a half hour later, several groups of people walked by and removed Native American pottery and other items from the display.

“Even though the window was already broken, they still entered the premises with the intent of committing a crime,” Glasgow told the Davis Enterprise.

Bad behavior all around. Sad and disappointing that so little respect is shown for one another, and the property of others. I hope those involved are located and face appropriate consequences for their actions.

Kids today.....think everything should be for them, and free to boot.

Wow. Why didn't the store have an alarm system set up though?

Too bad the video is so low-def. But hooray for fingerprints! And 'kids' aren't the only people in the world committing crimes...

Ethical people would have called the police to report the broken window, not "shopped". Can't wait for these loser to get caught.

It is odd they didn't have an alarm. I assume they lock all the jewelry in a vault, and didn't think anyone would break in for the fixtures and such. Bet they get an alarm system now!

So sorry to hear this! De Luna's is a great business with excellent, caring staff. Glad no one was hurt, and I hope the Ancestors of the makers of the pottery come to haunt those who stole it!!t

For a store with a very visible, expensive inventory, De Luna's really went cheap with their camera system. Their alarm system's in the same boat. But it's strange that Davis PD. didn't have at least one car patrolling the down-town area during this length of time. Perhaps there's no place open nearby, to buy coffee and donuts?
