Applications Due This Week For Davis Advisory Commissions

The application deadline to serve on a variety of local commissions is Friday, Nov. 15.

The following is a press release from the City of Davis: 

The City of Davis is accepting applications from citizens interested in serving on one of the following commissions:

  • Bicycle Advisory
  • Finance & Budget
  • Human Relations
  • Natural Resources
  • Open Space & Habitat
  • Recreation & Park
  • Senior Citizens

By serving on a City commission, you are helping plan the future of Davis.  Commissions serve as a conduit for citizen input – a way of gathering, analyzing and recommending options to the City Council.  Commissions also provide an important avenue for extending the reach of the democratic process.

Applicants must be 18+ years of age and reside or own a business within the Davis Joint Unified School District boundary. Applications may be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall,
23 Russell Boulevard during regular business hours, or downloaded at http://city-managers-office.cityofdavis.org/city-clerk/apply-to-serve-on-a-city-commission

Please be aware that all applications and accompanying documents are considered public information and may be disclosed/released pursuant to the California Public Records Act.

In addition to the application form, commission applicants will participate in a five-minute private interview with a Council subcommittee and city staff. Applications are tentatively scheduled to be submitted to City Council for appointment by December 2013/January 2014.

BICYCLE ADVISORY COMMISSION

  • Develops options to achieve the goals of the City's Comprehensive Bicycle Plan.
  • Makes recommendations on matters such as bicycle safety, enforcement and engineering.
  • Meets:  1st Monday (monthly), 5:30pm, 23 Russell Boulevard.

FINANCE AND BUDGET COMMISSION

  • Analyzes technical, financial and budgeting issues requested by City Council.
  • Fosters public understanding of local government finance.
  • Meets:  2nd Monday (monthly), 7:00pm, 23 Russell Boulevard.

HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION

  • Promotes mutual respect, understanding and tolerance among all persons.
  • Advocates educational and appropriate activities to discourage/prevent discrimination and prejudice and promote diversity, equality and justice.
  • Meets:  4th Thursday (monthly), 6:30pm, 23 Russell Boulevard.

NATURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION

  • Promotes the preservation, management and enhancement of the City's natural resources.
  • Recommends policies and guidelines regarding air quality in the Yolo-Solano-Sacramento region, water conservation, waste management and recycling.
  • Meets:  4th Monday (monthly), 6:30pm, 23 Russell Boulevard.

OPEN SPACE AND HABITAT COMMISSION

  • Advises on matters relating to open space issues, programs, projects and habitats.
  • Fosters dialogue with the community for open space projects and issues.
  • Meets: 1st Monday (monthly), 6:30pm, 23 Russell Boulevard.

RECREATION AND PARK COMMISSION

  • Advises on matters pertaining to public recreation and park planning.
  • Reviews annual budgets for park and recreation programs.
  • Meets:  3rd Thursday (monthly) 7:00pm, Davis Senior Citizens Center, 646 A Street.

SENIOR CITIZENS COMMISSION

  • Advises on matters relating to policies and programs that serve senior citizens.
  • Identifies needs of the aging in the community.
  • Explores improved and new services in private and public sectors.
  • Meets: 2nd Thursday (monthly), 2:30pm, Davis Senior Citizens Center, 646 A Street.
