Council Campaign Gets Ugly: Sue Greenwald Attack Mailer (PHOTO)

What do you think of the mailer? Did you receive it?

A strongly-worded campaign mailer landed in many Davisites' mailboxes this this week, instantly adding some controversy to the city council race.

The mailer, which references a 2010 confrontation between council candidate Sue Greenwald and former mayor Ruth Asmundson, claims to be in support of Councilmember Stephen Souza, but says it is "not authorized by any candidate for City Council or any candidate's controlled committee."

Souza condemned the mailer in the Davis Enterprise, calling it the "lowest, dirtiest stunt I can recall being smeared onto the politics of Davis."

The other candidates criticized the ad as well, making clear that they had no involvement in it.

The mailer was "Paid for by Citizens for Better Government in Davis 2012, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 447, IBEW Local 340 [and] Operating Engineers Local Union 3." The Davis Vanguard says that Political Operative James Burchill Appears to Be Behind Attack Mailer

Greenwald said in in the Enterprise that Burchill approached her offering campaign support if she were to suppor the Woodland-Davis surface-water project, which she interpreted as a threat and a bribe.

What do you think of the mailer? Did you receive it in the mail? Will it have an impact on the election results?
