Apartment Move-Out Waste Reduction Program Volunteer Meeting

Are you interested in helping out at the Apartment Move-Out Waste Reduction Program (AMOWRP)? Mark your calendars for August 27- September 1!

Every year the City of Davis Recycling Program teams up with apartment managers to encourage reuse of items and to reduce the amount of waste that happens during the yearly August move-out. Davis Recycling staff sets up donation stations at participating apartment properties, and residents donate items they no longer want or need. Local non-profit groups and other a...partment residents stop by and take the items they want. The end result is that good, usable items are kept out of the trash.

This year, the AMOWRP will run from August 27- September 1. During that time, volunteers are needed to work whatever hours they can (morning, afternoon or evening) to help keep the donation stations organized (place cushions on sofas, stack books neatly, throw trash in the garbage, tidy-up the area, etc.), and sort materials (separate clothes, linens, shoes, house wares, etc.). Volunteers are invited to keep any items they wish that have been donated. The City Recycling Program will also be pairing up interested volunteers with local non-profit groups; participating non-profits will provide a list of the items they are in need of, and volunteers can pick them up as they find them.

All volunteers are required to:

1) Attend a training session. Training sessions will provide a brief overview of the program, cover basic volunteer duties, and allow volunteers to fill out the required paperwork and choose their preferred donation stations. Dates and times of the training sessions are listed below:

Monday, July 16 at 3:00 p.m. at the Public Works Department 1717 5th Street
Friday, July 27 at 3:00 p.m. at the Public Works Department 1717 5th Street
Wednesday, August 1 at 3:00 p.m. at the Public Works Department 1717 5th Street
Monday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lounge in the Hallmark Inn, 110 F Street

Please RSVP to 757-5688 or jgilbert@cityofdavis.org if you will be attending one of the meetings.

2) Fill out the following forms prior to working:

Form #1--City wide Volunteer Application (http://cityofdavis.org/cmo/hr/volunteer/pdfs/Volunteer-Intake-Form.pdf) --please complete this entire form.
Form #2--YCPARMIA MPN (http://cityofdavis.org/cmo/hr/volunteer/pdfs/Workers-Compensation-MPN-Network-Acknowledgment.pdf) --Only the last page needs to be filled out and submitted
Form #3--Driving Status Form (http://cityofdavis.org/cmo/hr/volunteer/pdfs/Driving-Status-Form.pdf) --if you do not have a driver’s license, you do not need to fill out this form. Volunteers with a license that will be driving while working as a volunteer for the move-out program (not driving to an apartment donation station to begin work, but driving from one apartment to another in the course of working), are considered "driving for the City" and are required to complete this form.
Form #4--DMV Employer Pull Notice (http://cityofdavis.org/cmo/hr/volunteer/pdfs/DMV-Pull-Notice.pdf) --if you do not have a driver’s license, you do not need to fill out this form.

All forms must be received by August 10, 2012. Forms can be submitted via email, mail, fax or may be hand delivered to:
Attn: Jennifer Gilbert
City of Davis Public Works Department
1717 5th Street
Davis, CA 95616
fax: 530-758-4738
jgilbert@cityofdavis.org

These forms must be filled out in order to volunteer for the AMOWRP.

Once the forms have been received, we will contact volunteers and find out what area of town they prefer to work in--chances are there are donation stations near your home!

We hope that you will participate in the AMOWRP! It's a very rewarding program that really makes a difference in our community and for the environment. It's also a lot of fun--like a city-wide garage sale, but everything is free! Please join us this year as we save resources, prevent waste and put unwanted items into the hands of people that need them.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you have about the program. More information is available on our website: www.cityofdavis.org/pw/recycle/moveout.cfm.
