Free "Treecycling" at the Yolo Landfill

Free "treecycling" will be available from Dec. 26 to Jan. 15.

By Beth Gabor

Free recycling of holiday trees (treecycling) is being offered at the Yolo County Central Landfill from December 26 through January 15th.  Treecycling turns your holiday tree into valuable renewable and recyclable resources.  Trees to be recycled should be free of all ornaments, flocking, tinsel, garland and lights.

Old electronics, such as computers, TVs and monitors, and paper, plastics, cans and  bottles can also be recycled every day at the landfill, located at  44090 County Road 28H in Woodland.

“Please join us in making the commitment to be more sustainable in the New Year,” said Yolo County Board of Supervisors Chair Matt Rexroad. “Holiday trees are biodegradable and will eventually decompose to provide essential organic matter.  By recycling your holiday tree, gift boxes, bottles and cans from holiday celebrations, you will help reduce waste in our landfill and you are doing your part to help the environment.”

Holiday recycling is sponsored by the Yolo County Department of Planning & Public Works, Division of Integrated Waste Management.  For information, call (530) 666-8729 or visit: www.yolocounty.org
