Letter to the Editor: Both Candidates Were 'Bully-ish' in the Last Debate

This was a terribly run debate and I can only hope that the third and final debate can be handled in a more professional manner.

Things got testy early in the second presidential debate. How do you expect candidates to approach the third debate Monday night? (Schedule)

Dear Editor,

My name is Doyle Burnett - a resident of and registered voter from Davis, California. I would like to express my heart-felt concern in terms of the way candidate behaviors were (or more importantly) were not dealt with during the second debate for the presidency.

The moderator made few successful attempts to intervene when the candidates went over on time, got off point, did not answer the question or became “bully-ish”. These behaviors started from the very beginning of the debate and continued throughout.

As voters, how are we to believe in a president who cannot follow their own set of guidelines or rules? And, to think, all three of the individuals on the stage were broadcast “world-wide” in real time. This was a terribly run debate and I can only hope that the third and final debate can be handled in a more professional manner.

Moderators need to hold candidates accountable to the “rules of engagement” and not allow behaviors that detract from the content of the debate. This did NOT happen last evening.

Sincerely,

Doyle Burnett
