POLL: Would You Ever Quit Being a Kings Fan?

The people of Sacramento have become sensitive and angry and annoyed by the situation. Would you ever disown the team?

Rumors are flying around Twitter today that the Sacramento Kings and their pesky little owners could be headed to Virginia Beach.

Thursday’s rumor comes after years of frustrating talks of a new stadium and a very real threat last year to . So far, a spokesperson for the Maloof family would not discuss the reports, according to the Sacramento Bee, and NBA officials say they don’t know anything about it.

"These Va Beach rumors are FALSE." said Sacramento sports personality Carmichael Dave on Twitter. "Makes no sense. Multiple sources with the Kings and NBA say no. Let's put it to bed."

Still, many people of Sacramento have become sensitive, angry and annoyed by the situation. At this juncture, we’d like to ask all Kings fans a question that would have seemed unfathomable back in 2002, when Bibby, Webber, Vlade, Peja and Adleman stole our hearts.

Would you ever quit being a Kings fan? Let us know in the poll below, and tell us about your answer in the comments.

Here’s a statement that a Maloof spokesperson sent to the Bee:

"The Kings have been approached by numerous cities interested in buying the team and relocating it. We are not going to discuss which cities have approached the team and are not going to comment on every rumor. I can tell you that the Kings are 100% focused on putting a winning team on the court."

I am a die-hard Kings fan, win or (mostly) lose. I believe the Magoofs should sell the team. If they move, I support efforts to get another team here, either by relocation or expansion. The area needs the jobs. Many people in Carmichael, Citrus Heights, Davis, Elk Grove, Fair Oaks, Rosemont, Roseville and the Sacramento region love the Kings but cannot get behind owners who have let the arena deteriorate and have failed to put money into acquiring stronger players.

I can't answer the Poll since I have already disowned the Kings. As soon as the Maloofs reneged on the arena agreement, I quit being a Kings fan. I now root for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

I feel the same way. I actually decided I can't root for the team because I would be rooting for those guys to succeed. (I just edited the poll to reflect that option. My bad for not wording it more loosely).
The irony of you picking the Thunder as your new team is interesting, though. They are a team that left a town that loved them, in part because of a shady owner. Pretty similar to Sac's situation.

I'm so up in the air about this question, and it's a valid question, too. I've been a die-hard Kings fan most my life. In fact, I can't remember a time I wasn't. I don't know, though. The last couple of seasons have been rough, but it's not for reasons directly related to the team itself. Would I be happy if the Kings left? Absolutely not; they belong in Sacramento. Am I happy with the organization right now? No, I'm pretty unhappy with them, in fact. My answer leaves me somewhat apathetic. I have no inspiration to be more than that, and perhaps maybe that's the biggest disappointment of all.

Justin, I picked the Thunder due to my Oklahoma ties. The Thunder owner may be considered shady for moving the team, but he is certainly not inept like the Maloofs.

To add insult to injury, an ESPN.com writer said the Kings have the worst uniforms in pro sports. http://espn.go.com/espn/playbook/story/_/id/8274852/uni-watch-power-rankings-rates-nfl-mlb-nba-nhl-uniforms-1-122
Now that's not right...

I actually really like the Thunder too, mostly just because they're a fun team. Nice that you've got Oklahoma ties. Also cool that a city like OKC can support a successful pro team (kind of like Sac has in the past). I agree, the Maloofs are by far the worst.

I'm done with anything associated with the Maloofs.
For crying out loud... either leave, or put some $$ into an arena and build a good team! You are the owners. Produce a product worthy of professional sports, or take it elsewhere. I'm done with you guys.

There is a large audience that this survey ignores - those of us that never watch basketball and would be happy if it just disappeared. Sports are something that should be played. Watching them is just a huge waste of our countries human resources.

Surveys are typically answered by those interested in the topic. Every survey does not need to have a "I don't care" option. I love sports, but I'm not that much into movies. However, I don't think going to movies is a huge waste of our country's resources. To each his own.

At first I thought, "What now? First the IRS is investigating the Tea Party and now the OddRead More Fellows and Soroptimist?" But then, after reading the article I realize that these are pretty serious allegations if proven to be true. I'm curious what specific "foster youth" organizations have benefitted from all of this fundraising. "Foster youth" is a pretty generic phrase and could refer to any number of organizations. With all of the non-profits I have worked with, the specific charity benefitting from their work was very clearly identified (and their 501c status was never in question).
