Video: Occupy Davis Holds First Meeting in Central Park

Nearly 100 people gathered in Central Park to discuss how the Occupy Wall Street movement should manifest itself in Davis.

The movement materialized in Davis Friday night.

More than 100 people gathered in and sat in a circle beginning at 6 pm. Together, they interpreted the “Occupy” movement that has gained momentum around the country, beginning on Wall Street in mid September.

Those in attendance took turns sharing ideas, noting their agreement or disagreement through silent hand signals.

Should they embrace prominent endorsements? Should they develop specific demands? Should they affiliate with Occupy Sacramento?

All of these were topics of discussion.

This video is a collection of sound bytes from the meeting, which was mostly a brainstorming session as to how the movement should take form in Davis.

At least one person expressed concern about a lack of specific goals, but the majority in attendance said (via hand signals) that it is an asset because it allows anybody to identify with the movement and prevents specific groups or people from co-opting it.
