On Monday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m., Yolo County will dedicate its new community garden, located adjacent to the Herbert Bauer Health and Alcohol, Drug & Mental Health Building at 137 N. Cottonwood Avenue in Woodland.

The garden is a quarter-acre plot of land that will have multiple garden areas including one for children, a demonstration garden and a community garden and orchard.

“This garden will be a special place in our community where children and adults can come to learn about gardening and enjoy its bounty,” said Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor.

“We wanted to use the land adjacent to our building to grow healthy food for the community and to create a space for community activities centered around the public health benefits of gardening,” said Laurie Green, Yolo County Health Department program manager.

The dedication will begin with a welcome and opening remarks from Yolo County Board of Supervisors Chair Duane Chamberlain with Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor serving as master of ceremonies for the unveiling of the garden name.

Staff of the Yolo County Health Department have contributed time into preparing the garden space.
