UC Davis Ranked Among Top 10 Public Universities

UC Davis places 9th among the top public universities in the nation.

UC Davis press release:

The University of California, Davis, is ranked ninth among the nation’s top 10 public universities, according to rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.

UC Davis also moved up from 100th to 85th spot in the QS World University Rankings.

Linda P.B. Katehi, chancellor of UC Davis, said the rankings indicate the university's growing international stature.

"The rankings recognize that UC Davis is one of the best universities in the world," she said. "We provide a world-class education, and our faculty are among the leaders in their fields."

In U.S. News & World Report's 2014 "Best Colleges" rankings, UC Davis is ranked ninth among national public universities and 39th overall among public and private national universities.

UC Davis’ College of Engineering is ranked 32nd, based on a national reputational survey of deans and department chairs in engineering programs across the country (undergraduate engineering and business programs are the only rankings by discipline in the "Best Colleges" publication).

Other U.S. News and World Report distinctions for UC Davis include mention among universities with excellent writing programs in the disciplines and those whose students graduate with the least debt.

The QS ranking of 800 top global universities -- adding more than 100 for this year's list -- is made up of six indicators. UC Davis received higher scores in five of the six categories including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty and international faculty. It received a slightly lower score for the proportion of international students.

In global reputation by academic discipline, UC Davis improved in all categories and ranks among the top 50 in the life sciences and medicine (46th) and natural sciences (47th).
