Flashmob: Dance in Davis on May 9! (VIDEO)

On Wednesday night I held the first free community rehearsal for Dance Dance Davis, a participatory flashmob happening on May 9th at 6:15 pm. My goal is to create Davis's biggest flashmob ever by getting over 100 people to dance.

In a fit of self-doubt, I bribed my husband and a few of his friends to come to the rehearsal with the promise of post-rehearsal beers. You just never know if the stuff you think is fun and worthwhile is the same stuff that others will think is fun. I’m not worried anymore. We had a full dance studio at the Davis Art Center and over 100 people have registered to dance in the flashmob so far. I guess I have to increase my goal!

Why am I producing a flashmob? The simple answer is because it will be fun. Super fun. And I think having fun with other people in real time is actually an incredibly deep and meaningful thing to do – to have a shared, expressive, creative experience with others in my community – well that is the stuff that makes life great.  Dancing makes people happy and what is more fundamental that the pursuit of happiness?

So, check out this little teaser video I made and register for Dance Dance Davis. Come to one free community rehearsal to learn the dance. Anybody can learn it in an hour. There will be one final rehearsal and social hour at the Mondavi Center Studio on May 7th from 6:30-8:30. The location of the flashmob will be revealed at that time. And then, on May 9th, we will all dance!
