Former Aggie Signed to San Francisco 49ers

Colton Schmidt signed a three-year deal with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent.

Colton Schmidt, a former UC Davis football player, has signed a deal to play for the San Francisco 49ers, the team announced Monday.

Schmidt will be a punter for the team in the three-year deal.

"He finished his collegiate career with 235 punts for 9,664 yards and a school record 41.1 gross punting average," the 49ers said in a press release. "He also served as the team’s kickoff specialist with 34 of his 62 kickoffs resulting in touchbacks."

The Bakersfield native finished his collegiate career last year by beating another school record: the single-season high mark for average punt distance. He also earned First-Team Big Sky Conference that year, and made Second-Team All-Great West Conference his junior and sophomore seasons.
