USA Track And Field Championship Preview
Two Aggies hope to have the chance to compete in the national meet.
UC Davis’ Jonathan Peterson and Ashley Hearn have a chance to close their seasons on a high note next weekend at the USA Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The two are provisionally qualified for the event, which will take place June 23-26. The deadline for qualification was June 21, but the deadline to declare for the meet was June 19. The two UC Davis participants are still listed as provisional, but Patch will update that when we know more.
Peterson provisionally qualified for the 5,000-meter event with a time of 13 minutes, 31.93 seconds. The junior from Clovis won the 8-kilometers race at the Big West Conference Championships with a time of 23:40, beating the second-place finisher by 17 seconds.

Peterson proceeded to take fifth at the NCAA Regional, which qualified him for the NCAA Cross-Country Championships where he finished 14th with a 10K time of 30:09.1. For his efforts this season, Peterson was named an All-American for cross-country. Peterson holds the UC Davis records in the 5000-meters and the two-mile races.
Hearn’s discus throw of 56.16 meters gave her provisional qualification for the event. The senior won the Woody Wilson Open with a discus throw of 52.72 meters, beating her closest opponent by more than 8.5 meters. Hearn also finished first in the hammer throw at that meet.
