Davis Food Co-Op

<p>The Davis Food Co-Op, located in the G Street Shopping Center, is a Davis institution, having been an integral part of the community for almost 40 years. It offers a large selection of healthy, natural, organic, free range and heirloom products as well as many typical supermarket items. The store has a large cheese display, a fun wine section, a meat counter with plenty of quality products and house made sausages, an eclectic beer case and plenty more.</p> <p>At the entrance of the co-op is a counter that exclusively serves Pachamama Coffee (Pachamama is itself a cooperative that sells fair trade coffee directly from more than 10,000 family farmers of coffee around the world). Next to the coffee counter is a cold case displaying an ever changing assortment of house made foodstuffs, usually vegetarian. The store also has roasted free range chickens and an in-house sushi chef who rolls fresh sushi, much of it with organic brown rice.</p> <p>There are employees throughout the store; many are assigned to a particular department, but all are very helpful and always willing to stop what they are doing to lend a hand.</p> <p>Overall, the Davis Food Co-Op is a fun, progressive, engaging establishment; a visit tends to be a minor event rather than mere grocery shopping.</p>
