<p>Located on the first floor of the Art Building across Hutchison Drive from Shields Library, the Nelson was dedicated in 1976 to the memory of the first chairman of the UC Davis Art Department. It features exhibits of the works of world-class and cutting edge artists from around the world and Davis. The exhibitions are supported by lectures, publications and other promotions.</p> <p>In addition, the Nelson maintains an archive of 4,000 art objects executed in a wide variety of media. The focus of the archive centers on the "Funk" movement which flourished in Davis in the late 1960s. </p>
