The Domes

Founded in 1972 and located on the southwest side of campus (Orchard Park Circle at Orchard Park Drive), The Domes are aptly named. Each dwelling, built for two inhabitants, is, literally, a pre-cast fiberglass dome which includes lofts and a ground-level common area. Management policy-making at this UCD student housing option is unique. Every decision concerning the residents, or "Domies," is reached by the consensus of all. The "Domies" hold their consensus-building meetings and other social activities at the yurt (a large structure modeled on Mongolian tents) surrounded by community gardens. Communal meals are prepared and served there as well.
