<p>"Uncle Vito" himself was an immigrant from Sicily who arrived in New York in the early 1900s. He soon went to work in the family's Sacramento Valley dairy business making mozzarella, ricotta and many more cheeses, while also developing his love for pizza. The restaurant bearing his name serves pizza by the slice or pie in a New York–style (thin crust, a special mix of spices in the sauce) in honor of Uncle Vito and the city where he first set foot in the land of his dreams. </p>
<p>With the recent closing of Cartridge World next door, Uncle Vito's is set to expand to twice its current size by taking over that space in February 2011. Uncle Vito's menu will also substantially expand.  Sliders and calamari are to be added to the appetizer menu. New York–style pastrami sandwiches will appear on the sandwich menu, along with many more burger choices and Philly cheese steaks.  Traditional American breakfasts priced with students' budgets in mind will also be added to the new menu. Pizza choices will greatly expand, too, and include a gluten-free crust option.</p> <p>The expansion will also include a redo of the generic interior decorating design.</p>
