Awesome, I was part of this study! I was wondering when it would be published. But, yeah, I still…Read More shop downtown a ton! But for men's and children's clothing, bedding, some home goods, etc., the Target in Davis keeps me in Davis. Can't wait for the TJ Maxx, either!

Truly, the participants should boycott the race over this asinine backpack ban. I'm not a runner,…Read More but I would do so if I had previously had plans to attend this event.
But I already boycott doing any business in SF over the unconstitutional red light cameras and the OUTRAGEOUS fines that they have imposed for these pernicious, non-human devices so I guess this is just another reason to not visit SF.

Bob, yep, we go every year. Wouldn't miss it. It's one of the huge, great things about living in…Read More Davis. There will always be a few people getting out of hand. I believe they mentioned 31 citations and even fewer arrests, but my goodness, the attendance was estimated at 55,000. Not bad for an event this size. Can't wait for next year.

So did we! Had a great time with the family, I love Picnic Day. Were you here 2 or 3 years ago?
Roberto April 20, 2013 at 10:43 pm
Smashed windows, riots, fights, deaths, mayhem, drunkard irresponsible frat boy friends. Wow, Bob.…Read More You must attend a different picnic day than I do. We rode our bikes downtown early, got some coffee, watched the great activities listened to some music, and totally enjoyed a beautiful spring day.

I have known Claudia for 30 years and think of her as family. I am shocked and sad at this horrific…Read More event. I have loved her all this time and will continue too forever. She loved me and has been there for me through many challenges I have faced and always answered the phone when I called. My heart goes out to her 3 daughters and many grandchildren. She was love and wisdom personified.

Another update: "Most all of the Davis entrants are from the Golden Valley Harriers Running…Read More club (we had 18 attend Boston this year) All of us are accounted for. I finished about 72 minutes before the explosions and was back in my hotel room when it happened. Another friend was staying at the Lennox across the street from the finish line and witnessed the aftermath from his hotel room. I believe two friends were unable to finish."

I believe that the purpose of a service is to provide something of value, not just to employ people…Read More in a task that can be easily accomplished by a piece of equipment or machinery. Riveting was replaced by welding, we don’t need buggy whip makers anymore because we use cars in lieu of horse drawn carriages and sheet rock and tape replaced the people who used to apply plaster in buildings. At one time perhaps a quarter to a third of our population was on the farm and they were replaced by machinery. It’s called progress.

Yeah, when I leave it outside I use both a U-lock and a super heavy-duty chain which also functions…Read More as a belt to make transportation easy. Otherwise I bring it inside with me.

It's unfortunate that bike theft is so prevalent in Davis, but with so many bicycles out there, its…Read More bound to happen. The best way to protect your bike from theft is a good quality lock and making sure your bike is properly locked up (wheels and frame locked to a secure bike rack), and in a visible location. Even doing so is no guarantee that your bike won't be stolen but it reduces the chances of it happening. Some cyclists also use two different types of locking systems, a U-lock together with a chain or heavy cable as its unlikely a thief would carry tools to defeat both types.

Post one of these signs to keep handbills from being left on your premises:
“No…Read More Trespassing”; “No Peddlers or Agents”; “No Advertisement”;

Don't answer the door for strangers. If they become insistant, threaten to call the police, they…Read More will leave!
A bit off topic here, but can anyone give me advice on people leaving advertising on my door? It's a regular occurence (at my apartment complex) to see an advert for a restaurant, gym, nail salon, etc. stuck in my door and I'm sick of it. Is there anything I can do? My downstairs neighbor posted a no soliciting sign(on his door) that is useless considering these people never knock on the door, but just leave their trash behind for us to dipose of.

Paying a person to 'buy' their time to come to your home, or ?? to care for your most beloved…Read More valuable in Life, is all a matter left to the Parent. Sure, you can review the guidelines set by some averages, areas, and calculations, but,,, bottom line is, it is what is within your budget and the agreement you have between you and your provider. If you want a credentialed nurse, teacher or professional, to come in, you will be paying more than you will be by hiring a high school student. I am a Caregiver/Nanny, my rates depend on the situation. I am a Mother/Grandmother, CPR/FirstAid certified and have a mile long list of experience and references. Personally, I will not work on a basis of a flat fee and variable hours. My time is charged by the time I spend, my duties, etc. Each party should communicate and agree on all aspects of responsibilities and payment. Taking care of someone's child is the most important job I have ever had. The Responsibility of it is Immense! If you are looking for someone to care for your Baby, whether 3 months, or 12 years old, please be sure that their PRIORITY is that Child, and NOT anything else! Check references and background, and when you are happy with that individual's care, please show them you are. They are there because they need the money. A few dollars shows your Caregiver that you Appreciate them, and if you can not spare that extra couple of bucks, you may want to rethink leaving your loved one with anyone at all...

In addition to being a mother of three, I'm a formerly credentialed elementary school teacher,…Read More trained Girl Scout Leader, Sunday school teacher and respite care giver for those with special needs. To pay me the $10.50 an hour this calculator suggests for my area would be a slap in the face to me. I don't just sit around and watch children (of any age) watch TV or play computer games. I play and work with children, thus leaving them better off for having spent time with me. I'm currenly watching a ten-year-old two weeks a month, and am currently teaching her how to sew and bake homemade bread. The $12.00 an hour I charge is well worth it for the time I put in. I strongly feel that the amount paid for any child care job should be calculated based on the providers' training, experience, and how they spend their time with children.
