If the circumstances were different I would agree that the slurs might not have been hate related.Read More However, given the sheer brutality of the attack I would say that this was definitely a hate crime.
Anila Abhay May 19, 2013 at 11:27 am
Well hate crime and violence is all over the country and I just finished reading a book about it.Read More White Girl Bleed a Lot: The return of racial violence to America. http://whitegirlbleedalot.com/. It's about hate crimes, racial crimes, mob violence, violence against gays.. etc. It's a collection of violence mostly have videos. You might not believe it but it's really happening. So scary. I think there's more than 50 cities.
Bob Fry May 18, 2013 at 09:16 am
Yeah, OK, hey Chancellor, could you PLEASE not throw another $100,000 at this incident like the lastRead More time to make a committee and do nothing?
Megan May 17, 2013 at 02:05 pm
This email they sent out to UC Davis was not at all helpful. Declaring that they will get to theRead More bottom of this, while not providing any details on the incident, does not empower the UC Davis community. If they had included details, perhaps a few people would have read this and thought "hmm, I know someone with that physical description who owns a burgundy SUV." Instead, most are just as in the dark about the incident as they were before.

Sunday, May 12. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for pointing that out. I just cleaned it up.
Emily Thomason May 16, 2013 at 11:37 am
Was this on Sunday May 12th or Thursday May 16? (Article says Thursday May 12).
Tal Medovoy May 13, 2013 at 05:43 pm
To Lori Prizmich, I understand the theory but it definetely was not coordniated because the person IRead More was in the fender bender was a teacher at my school.
Lori Prizmich May 13, 2013 at 04:18 pm
That sucks! Do you think the fender bender and the theft may have been related (ie: coordinated)?
Tal Medovoy May 13, 2013 at 03:22 pm
I am the person who's car was stolen and it was not in front of Da Vinci, it was near D and EastRead More 8th. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Justin Cox (Editor) May 9, 2013 at 09:07 pm
A prior version of this story didn't have any paragraph breaks or hyperlinks, making it pretty muchRead More unreadable. Sorry if you tried to slog through that one. The problem is fixed now.
Jane Wilcox May 14, 2013 at 02:48 pm
Should've just sent them to jail. Anybody who's had to deal with their crap (a ton of UCD studentsRead More including myself) know that they have no idea what they're talking about, and were huge pricks to fellow students. Seriously? You guys throw garbage at and spit at a poor girl just trying to get in the bank to cash her check? You guys are the lowest trash of humanity. The only solace I have is that considering how shitty you are as people, it'll only be a matter of time before you're either sent to jail or have the shit kicked out of you for being little self-absorbed narcissistic douchebags. And to the girl with the shitty facial piercings and fedora who screamed assault when somebody tripped over YOUR foot: 1. Even the cop laughed and said you're being ridiculous. 2. Nobody cares that you're "taking graduate courses as an undergrad", so stop saying "I'm more intelligent than you". 3. Take a damn shower. You smell like cheap beer and egotism.
Roberto May 11, 2013 at 11:40 pm
Davis PD won't help get it solved either. This one is a little more complicated than a stop sighRead More citation or citing a kid on a bike with an unauthorized chin strap.
Kayaker May 9, 2013 at 11:49 pm
Ragging on the Davis PD won't help get this crime solved.
Roberto May 7, 2013 at 03:00 pm
'The Crime Remains a Mystery.' Famous slogan of the Davis PD.

That's the quietest public disturbance I've ever heard of.

Bob, yep, we go every year. Wouldn't miss it. It's one of the huge, great things about living inRead More Davis. There will always be a few people getting out of hand. I believe they mentioned 31 citations and even fewer arrests, but my goodness, the attendance was estimated at 55,000. Not bad for an event this size. Can't wait for next year.
Bob April 20, 2013 at 11:28 pm
So did we! Had a great time with the family, I love Picnic Day. Were you here 2 or 3 years ago?
Roberto April 20, 2013 at 10:43 pm
Smashed windows, riots, fights, deaths, mayhem, drunkard irresponsible frat boy friends. Wow, Bob.Read More You must attend a different picnic day than I do. We rode our bikes downtown early, got some coffee, watched the great activities listened to some music, and totally enjoyed a beautiful spring day.

marci, I live in Davis now and just came home from the vigil held at the Unitarian church tonight. IRead More was looking for you there. I am so glad you responded to my comment. my email is lnex4evr@yahoo.com. I would love to hear from you. ellen
Marci Stapley April 18, 2013 at 12:07 am
Ellen, you have been on my mind since I heard this horrible news. I don't have your phone number orRead More email but want to talk to you. I hope we can get in touch.
ellen keating April 17, 2013 at 10:01 pm
I have known Claudia for 30 years and think of her as family. I am shocked and sad at this horrificRead More event. I have loved her all this time and will continue too forever. She loved me and has been there for me through many challenges I have faced and always answered the phone when I called. My heart goes out to her 3 daughters and many grandchildren. She was love and wisdom personified.

Another: "A classmate let me know you were posting concerns about Davis residents running theRead More Boston Marathon. I actually got a stress fracture about a month ago and did not attend. But my heart goes out to all those folks that were there and I hope everyone else is safe and sound." - Amber

Another update: "Most all of the Davis entrants are from the Golden Valley Harriers RunningRead More club (we had 18 attend Boston this year) All of us are accounted for. I finished about 72 minutes before the explosions and was back in my hotel room when it happened. Another friend was staying at the Lennox across the street from the finish line and witnessed the aftermath from his hotel room. I believe two friends were unable to finish."
Justin Cox (Editor) April 15, 2013 at 09:43 pm
Another email we received: "I've heard from Davis runners Mick Petersen and Stella Ruiz andRead More they are fine."
Mark Gold April 26, 2013 at 04:09 pm
It's been almost a week now and I'm curious if there are any updates on this case?

Anita....did it ever...even once...occur to you that these POOR pathetic teens are not soRead More innocent??? I'm originally from NH. I went to U.Mass and during the school year we must have had about a hundred thousand "school Kids". During the summer, the REGULAR FAMILIES LIVED IN TOWN. THE SCHOOLS POLICE DEPT. WAS 7 TIMES LARGER THAN THE REGULAR CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT! YOU ARE UNFORTUNATELY IGNORANT AND MISGUIDED. I am not saying that the police are innocent but if you don't know whats going on when the police stop someone why don't you just mosy on over to check out what all the hoop-la is about yourself??? Find out if these Poor Teens have been asked several times before not to skate on the sidewalk or to use areas that are for us older walking folk! If that offends you...you are probably selfish too. I highly recommend that you get to the bottom of what it is your so riled up about. FIND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING... THE TRUTH! If you don't want to get involved...stay away from the rest of the world because your in for a rude awakening. OH...and shut up if you don't know what your talking about too. It makes you look ...well, as I said...ignorant.

Maybe the people here could stop for a minute and think before they type. (This is for those of youRead More bashing DPD). I want you to think is my comment going to make a difference, is my comment going to help those people grieving the loss of close family friends, is my comment related to the article. This is not a free for all to rail on DPD, this is an article about two people who were upstanding citizens who tried their hardest to make a difference in other people's lives, and sadly were met with a horrible and early death. They wouldn't want their deaths to bring about hatred, they wouldn't want their deaths to be an opportunity for others to bash something they can't control. So I ask you to think about what you are typing before you press enter. And if you really want to make a difference in your town try volunteering with DPD and their wonderful community programs both for the Youth and Adults. http://police.cityofdavis.org/davis-police-department-volunteer-program

Not clear if the lost wheel came from from the motorized vehicle or from the trailer. Once when IRead More was driving one of the old Checker cabs I slowed down to a stop at an intersection and the front wheel detached and rolled right through the intersection.
Roberto April 12, 2013 at 03:16 pm
Very astute comments ron. Veeeery astute. Have you ever considered becoming a writer? You'll goRead More far.
Karen LaRiviere April 11, 2013 at 03:48 pm
Oh my God, this happened to me just last week on 680 by Hwy 4. I was driving to Walnut Creek when IRead More saw a tire come flying from the slow lane across the freeway, jumped the divider and if I hadn't slowed down, it would have hit the front end of my car. It was terrifying but even more so because I almost had my daughter drive with her permit. I'm not sure what would have happened if an inexperienced driver encountered that, but I know someone who was killed on I-5 because of a tire hitting their windshield. Glad no one was seriously hurt in the most recent incident.
