Normally I would agree with Ashley, but in the case of a minor there is also the category ofRead More statutory rape. The victim is too young to give consent although they may be a willing participant. Here it really is a legal distinction.
Justin Cox (Editor) June 7, 2013 at 08:54 am
The incident is described in the first paragraph of the story, so I think it's smart to removeRead More "forcibly" from the headline, regardless.
Ashley S. June 7, 2013 at 09:02 am
Thanks. Sorry to be a stickler about this. All the rape talk in the 2012 election made me a bitRead More sensitive to the terminology used when talking about these things.

What a nimrod.
ROBERT AMORY June 7, 2013 at 06:24 am
QUOTING URBAN DICTIONARY: "NIMROD Share on twitter Share on facebook Share on more 988 up,Read More 372 down 1. A mighty hunter. Now chiefly used in this sense outside the United States. 2. A slow-witted person. Nimrod was the Biblical founder of Babylon, also considered a mighty hunter. Contrary to the uneducated twits on here, Nimrod did NOT build the tower of Babel (at least the Bible does not claim this, only that the "men of Babylon" tried to build it), and the Bible does NOT claim he tried to kill God. The Bible ONLY mentions that Nimrod was a son of Cush, the founder of Babylon, and a mighty hunter. Curiously enough, Dictionary.com attests definition 2 to have derived from a Looney Toons episode, wherein Bugs Bunny mocks his adversary, the hunter Elmer Fudd, calling him a "poor little Nimrod". Warner Brothers' Looney Toons cartoons were not written for children, but for literate adults, and often contained literary references children would not understand. Younger generations, mostly illiterate, and having little or no Bible knowledge not gleaned from their moronic parents and half-wit talk radio hosts, probably misunderstood the comment as being a general insult describing the slow-witted Fudd. Probably from the phrase “poor little Nimrod,” used by the cartoon character Bugs Bunny to mock the hapless hunter Elmer Fudd. buy nimrod mugs & shirts"

I live near Portage Bay and Lake - the power started flickering late in the afternoon, but I didn'tRead More realize it was related to the fires. Thankfully, the outside temperature had just begun to drop when the power went out, so it was comfortable without the air conditioner. A PG & E truck arrived at the intersection at about 10 PM, and power was restored about 20-minutes later. The worker then zoomed off into the Stonegate neighborhood. Interestingly, the street lights came on at about their usual time during the outage...different system, I guess?
em_gaskill June 4, 2013 at 10:28 am
My daughter was performing a play at the Art Center that night . . . made the performance ratherRead More interesting since the lights were out from 6 until around 7:15 then came back then went out again fifteen minutes later, then back on ten minutes after that. Kids were all troopers under the extreme situation though, especially since it was pretty stuffy and they were all in costume.

If the circumstances were different I would agree that the slurs might not have been hate related.Read More However, given the sheer brutality of the attack I would say that this was definitely a hate crime.
Cheryl Marshall Jonas May 23, 2013 at 11:23 pm
Hate n crime?? F word slur is used by many people including myself at times.. That doesn't mean IRead More dislike gay people. Its just a word. Okay if I am called a bitch, then that is a hate crime correct?? Sorry Mikey was injured in this manner but I know it wasn't a hate crime. Clay used a word that just so happened to fit the individules lifestyle.. Wow not too much is mentioned about the Gay person that was injured on campus by two men calling this person the F word.. perhaps when they catch these two people then they can raise the bail and ruin this young mans life forever..just as you people of davis are trying to do to Clay Garzon..
Cheryl Marshall Jonas June 3, 2013 at 02:38 am
mark gold.. i disagree with you sorry ... Clay used that f word as a slur its not a hate crimeRead More seriously .. guilty until proven innocent..??? wtf

This email they sent out to UC Davis was not at all helpful. Declaring that they will get to theRead More bottom of this, while not providing any details on the incident, does not empower the UC Davis community. If they had included details, perhaps a few people would have read this and thought "hmm, I know someone with that physical description who owns a burgundy SUV." Instead, most are just as in the dark about the incident as they were before.
Bob Fry May 18, 2013 at 09:16 am
Yeah, OK, hey Chancellor, could you PLEASE not throw another $100,000 at this incident like the lastRead More time to make a committee and do nothing?
Anila Abhay May 19, 2013 at 11:27 am
Well hate crime and violence is all over the country and I just finished reading a book about it.Read More White Girl Bleed a Lot: The return of racial violence to America. http://whitegirlbleedalot.com/. It's about hate crimes, racial crimes, mob violence, violence against gays.. etc. It's a collection of violence mostly have videos. You might not believe it but it's really happening. So scary. I think there's more than 50 cities.

Was this on Sunday May 12th or Thursday May 16? (Article says Thursday May 12).
Justin Cox (Editor) May 16, 2013 at 11:44 am
Sunday, May 12. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for pointing that out. I just cleaned it up.

I am the person who's car was stolen and it was not in front of Da Vinci, it was near D and EastRead More 8th. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Lori Prizmich May 13, 2013 at 04:18 pm
That sucks! Do you think the fender bender and the theft may have been related (ie: coordinated)?
Tal Medovoy May 13, 2013 at 05:43 pm
To Lori Prizmich, I understand the theory but it definetely was not coordniated because the person IRead More was in the fender bender was a teacher at my school.
Justin Cox (Editor) May 9, 2013 at 09:07 pm
A prior version of this story didn't have any paragraph breaks or hyperlinks, making it pretty muchRead More unreadable. Sorry if you tried to slog through that one. The problem is fixed now.
Jane Wilcox May 14, 2013 at 02:48 pm
Should've just sent them to jail. Anybody who's had to deal with their crap (a ton of UCD studentsRead More including myself) know that they have no idea what they're talking about, and were huge pricks to fellow students. Seriously? You guys throw garbage at and spit at a poor girl just trying to get in the bank to cash her check? You guys are the lowest trash of humanity. The only solace I have is that considering how shitty you are as people, it'll only be a matter of time before you're either sent to jail or have the shit kicked out of you for being little self-absorbed narcissistic douchebags. And to the girl with the shitty facial piercings and fedora who screamed assault when somebody tripped over YOUR foot: 1. Even the cop laughed and said you're being ridiculous. 2. Nobody cares that you're "taking graduate courses as an undergrad", so stop saying "I'm more intelligent than you". 3. Take a damn shower. You smell like cheap beer and egotism.

Ragging on the Davis PD won't help get this crime solved.
Roberto May 11, 2013 at 11:40 pm
Davis PD won't help get it solved either. This one is a little more complicated than a stop sighRead More citation or citing a kid on a bike with an unauthorized chin strap.
Guido Bisogno May 19, 2013 at 08:22 am
Usually you have to really piss somebody off to be that violently murdered in your home. Might be aRead More wacko out on the street in a big city but not in your house in Davis. these people were into something that's connected.
